REVIEW | rephr brush 01 and brush 07

rephr-brush-review-01-07

I’ve seen numerous videos and IG posts about rephr, so when the third variation on the 07 (the P07C) blending brush became available for testing, I jumped on the opportunity. I was able to try the S01 at a discount at the same time. Win-win.
rephr catalogs customer feedback via design journals on each project page, noting the refinements from iteration to iteration, which is awesome. I love learning more about the production process.

About rephr

what does rephr mean and what’s the story behind it?

rephr [re-fer] is derived from the word reference.
12 months ago, we sat down with hundreds of artists, pros and people who are obsessed with quality to understand one thing: what makes a perfect makeup brush.
our brushes are designed in reference to the input from the passionate beauty community. each brush has gone through series of blind testing, improvements and multiple versions. what we end up with is a core set of brushes that are luxuriously soft, pro-level performance and extremely durable.
listening to our customers is at the core of what we do, and with our community’s input as reference, we’re on a mission to create incredible products that truly elevate people’s lifestyles.
we have lofty goals, and makeup brushes is our first product. we can’t wait to show you what’s next.

rephr Brush 01

The S01 is a goat hair blending brush similar in shape to a MAC 217. The bristles are denser, making it more versatile for my smaller lids – I can both lay down and blend shadow without ending up with an accidental, blown-out smokey eye. It has more bristle volume than the Sonia G. Blender Pro, but both perform similarly based on my typical application. See below for the visual comparison between the MAC 217 and S01.

rephr Brush 07 – Iteration 3

The 07C is closest to my Wayne Goss 04. The main differences are the taper and density. The WG 04 is better for a quicker diffused crease, while I find that the 07C is better for precision. The 07C can still get there, but I will probably reserve the 07C for outer-v creasework. See below for the visual comparison.

The Verdict

Overall, I’m really pleased with both brushes from rephr, and I’m eyeing their face brushes as my next investment. Additional packaging note: the brushes come in a cardboard sheath for safe transport that doubles as a brush holder (dubbed “premium packaging” at checkout). Lined with a felted material, it’s an unexpected but wonderful touch!
